Students at the MLK Day of Service - January 2010

What is Service-Learning?

There are three necessary components that any project must possess to qualify as service-learning:

  1. A collaborative partnership between college and community
  2. Application of relevant academic knowledge and thinking skills to the project and, in turn, improvement of these skills through their practice
  3. Reflection and assessment leading to a deeper understanding of course content and civic engagement

Welcome to the OSL homepage. OSL was established in January 2009 and works to promote service-learning partnerships between the LSUA campus and the surrounding community. If you have any questions or would like to talk about service-learning, feel free to contact us.

Mission Statement

The LSUA Office of Service-Learning promotes, coordinates, and supports service-learning classes and initiatives between LSUA and community partners within Alexandria and the surrounding region.  Through these campus-community partnerships and service-learning courses, the Office offers students meaningful opportunities to meet needs in the Central Louisiana community through civic engagement while also enhancing the learning experience through practical application of course material.
